I have just finished reading a fantastic book on positive psychology and wellbeing, it is called learning from wonderful lives by Nick Baylis. In the book it referred to the importance of having a support network to achieving our goals. It said that by reading biographies of people we aspire to, having mentors, role models, great coaches and supportive companions we are on the road to achieving success. Relating this to riding it made me realise who has been inspirational in my learning journey with horses. I can think of some instructors who have had faith in me that have really encouraged and motivated me to do better. What or who we surround ourselves with obviously has an effect on us. I wondered if anyone else would agree to this?

I absolutely agree! Both in the equine world and in life "who" you surround yourself with can make a huge difference in your ability to succeed. I also think it can be tough for some to find that in the equine world, regardless of what discipline you pursue. I feel that I am one of those fortunate few that have always been surrounded by positive influences. Not that my feelings were spared, just a balanced mixture of honesty and open-mindedness. These are the same qualities that I am so fond of on "trot on"
