I have just started (and am very close to finishing) Natural Horse-Man-Ship, Pat Parelli.
I have never been to one of the demonstrations, but I was talking to someone about the games and they sounded very much like the sort of thing I always do when I first start "playing" with any horse. So I thought it was worth investigating.
I think there's something in this book for everyone (and like I said, I am still not even to the end). There's so much stuff in here that I knew, or do anyway, but he goes about explaining why it works and how to progress, improve and understand fully what a horse-man-ship relationship can help produce and I will be keeping this book as reference for a long time to come I think.
I have seen people commenting on reviews that he does not actually teach the games in the book, I would disagree, he just doesn't set it out as "Game one" in there. I am 100% sure everyone will be able to read this and go, oh, I wonder if I could, or they would, or what would happen if I... and I think, when you a responsible for any part of relationship be it with a horse, dog or human, forever pushing the possibilities and ideas and being responsive and creative comes as part of that. Life would be very boring or stagnant if it didn't 8-) http://www.parelli.com/

Lovely enthusiastic recommendation, Tweek. Thanks for that. I've never read anything Parelli has written but have seen some of the videos he has produced, which were a revelation to me. After your contribution, I'm going looking for his book too. There's something different about reading about these things; you can take your own time and mull over them....and then go out there and put them into practice. It's exciting stuff and has to be the way forward between us humans and the animals we love. There's some classy stuff on the parelli video.

Awesome... I think I would forget to even clap if I was there you know. Totally spellbinding! I was very lucky with my old Sec D, we had some mutual understanding and I used to ride him round no headcollar nothing and he just "got" it. Never had the opportunity to develope that with any other horse as most of my work and riding is done for other people. Much as I would love another of my own I totally couldn't afford it these days.

I think it's a magical bond if you even get this level of understanding with one horse. And, yes, it's a great video...but you don't need to go out and buy it when you can watch it here....that's what's so great about trotontv.

'My Way of Body Language' by Klaus Ferdinand Hempfling. This is a book due out later this year by clearly another of these master horsemen.....check out the video below. In the video library of trotontv there are several more of these videos of Hempfling, and they are all spell-binding. I've never come across him before but looking forward to that book.

This man Klaus Ferdinand is simply amazing. I had never heard of him until I saw the videos here but have looked at his work with awe. All learning is so interesting its the time needed to go out and spend all day, every day doing it that is so hard to find!

You said it, Horsegirl.. But at the moment, I'm a bit of an armchair enthusiast so the site is the ideal place for me...and I'm learning so much and one day I hope to find the time to put it all into practice.
