Hey guys! I used to be afraid to jump too, but I never let myself skimp out on a jump. I always just went for it. When you are going to a jump that scares you, just aim at it and let the horse do the rest. Don't think about the jump or the height, just think about something else like a movie. Before you know it you will be over the jump and after you have done it once, your nerves will subside substantially! Just don't think about the jump, your horse can make it over you just have to show him/her where to go! I don't know but that is just what I do |

I would recommend finding an NLP coach nearby to work on what is behind the fear - quite often riders get into a spiral of despair and feel they have no choice - NLP gives you that choice again without having to experience anything bad.
PM me if you would like more details

I lost my confidence by having a bad jumping fall on a horse. We sold that horse to a more experienced home, and after we went through 5-6 different horses who were, out of all bad luck, all buckers from dishonest people. Finally we brought the right one, but now I'm scared to jump! All these bad experiences really knocked me. I'm more or less a pretty confident rider but when it comes to jumping...
I try to ignore it and go over a jump but as I ride up to it I get scared and my horse stops dead. I used to jump anything and everything I could, but now I just can't seem to find the courage. I really want to get jumping again more than anything, I know I love it, but I need help to get me there!! |

Hey, when I was younger I used to be fearless, put me on any horse and I would do whatever I was told! (I was 4 however) I started riding again about 3 years ago and didn't have very good jumping experiences :/ and when I started jumping about 2ft 3 I would fall off every lesson. The horse I was riding was an absolout horror and was really quite nasty for a schooling horse.
Since then I have hated jumping, I've managed to get upto 2ft 6 but I take about 10 minutes of persuasion and tears to go over it. Now I've noticed its not just with bigger jumps but also with small things like 2ft 3 :/ unfortunately the horse I now have on loan was an ex hurdler and so he gallops into jumps and either cat leaps or massively overjumps it and so I'm not even tempted to try him out. I have him until june next year so I won't be jumping until then but I would like to know if there's anything out there that could help me. I would love to be one of those fearless people who will jump anything and everything but I play back every single bad fall or close call I've had and I get terrified!
(Heres one of the jumps I did, not too sure of the height but its not too big I don't think :/)
