Was wondering how many of you know how Arabians do in this venue? I have never done this type of event, have jumped many a fallen trees or ditches!!! But not this amazing type of event, would like to maybe take some lessons and do it for fun! I am 40 now, so it wouldn't be something I could do on a big level, but think i would absolutely enjoy it,,,, I do have a 6 yr old adopted niece! who is starting to ride and is probably heading this direction, any suggestions on the best horse? I already have an Egyptian Arabian mare that I rescued almost 2 yrs ago, we are still laying a good foundation under saddle, so maybe this summer? She can clear some pretty big things! from a standing position she has amazing springs! Would greatly appreciate any and all ideas for myself and 6 yr old Anika!

If you don't mind using a larger horse, Irish draughts are fantastic jumpers with great temperments

I met someone recently who had an Arab and she said it is a really good jumper but I must say you don't see many pure Arabs show jumping but a few crosses especially anglo-arabs (arabxTBs) I don't see any reason why you shouldn't be able to compete locally. I found a pic of an Arab jumping to inspire you!!

That is so nice, beautiful Arab, I would love to try with my Arabian mare, she is amazing at a stand still, kind of shocking she can clear quite well from the stand still! Thank you all for your help I am an ol cowgirl this is new unchartered territory for me but some thing i would love to do for fun, and to inspire my little 7 yr old friend to get involved in! so thanks to you all for taking time to post!

deborahk66, I personally would advise Welsh's as FAB jumping ponys as they love jumping! But for there height you might want to consider a Connemara or a Boarperd. Arabs are good showjumpers aswell as it shows! i think you should go ahead and see how it goes! Good Luck!
