Hi my pony was treated badly as a youngster, sent to sales and taken away from his mum too early....we didnt know this when we bought him so when he started Bucking Rearing and Biting we wrote to his owners on his passport to learn about his past and i now understand his manners(or lack of them)and love him lots.

Hi All. good on you for helping out the horses that came your way.... You will learn a lot as they show you what and how you need to act to give them confidence and restore their trust in humans. I t can be a long road but worth it..... Unfortunately many are in this state around the world. Rivka- sorry to hear about your stallion. some of the things people du 2 horses these days is unbelievabl. nice that ur getting on ok with him now tho. sounds a beautiful horse :D

Our second "rescue" horse is Ikeda, our Polish Arab mare. She came to live with us, and join our 2 boys Shadow and Eko, 2 years ago. Ikeda is a wonderful mare and is highly trained. She was an endurance racer, and a show horse, always placing in the ribbons. Ikeda devloped allergies, and this has affected her breathing. She had to be treated with medications which banded her from competitions. I run my farm as close to natural as I can, which means the horses are out 24/7 with access to hay and water at all times. They are kept barefoot ( performace trim, not pasture trim), and are encouraged to forage and graze, hense loads of natural movement. This living condition is ideal for horses with breathing issues, so when Ikedas former owner choose me to have her I was delighted. Ikeda is thriving very well under these conditions. She no longer requires medication. She will cough on occassion during high pollen seasons, but it is not extreme. She is used lightly to give a few lessons to neighbour hood kids, and she is teaching me to ride again, and to gain back some much needed confidence. She is totally enamourded with my husband, she nickers at the sight of him, and follows him around the pasture like a puppy dog. I give her credit in converting a non horse person into a horse lover. :)

HI Folks, my name is Diana ( MoonShadow)and I reside on Prince Edward Island, Canada. Two of my three horses I am there line to a second chance at a new life. First I will tell you about my youngster, MR. Eko. He is a Standardbred, and was in training at 2 to be a sulky race horse. He broke his knee in one of the training sessions. Lucky for him his family love him very much, and went through the stress and money to have him repaired. He underwent surgery, and many month of physio theropy. It was hoped he would race again. It had been thought that he was going to be a major condender, he is very well bred. But as luck would have it, the vet did not feel that his knee was strong enough to endure the hard rigors of racing. This left the owners with a huge heart ache, as with most STB if they can't race, they are usually euthinized. Word got out that we were looking for a horse for our daughter. The owners called, and we went to meet Eko..it was love at first site for both him and my daughter. He is now 6. He came home to live with us when he was a bit over 2. WOW has he grown up. He is now 16 h a tall boy for a STB. He has a delightful personality, he is very curious, and tried so hard to please. Sometimes like any youngun, he needs a gentle reminder of who is boss. I merely have to raise my voice, and he tows the line. We love him.

Hi my names rivka and i have a 14.2hh iron grey stallion. he was rescued by the rspca after being found tied to a lamp post. they believe in his old home he was beaten. so i begged my mum to let me buy him and one day she finally agreed to see him. When we got there he was stood in a stable and he looked soo scared. so my mum gave in and when we got him home i walked him out of the lorry and went to tie him up to it and he threw a massive hissy fit. he is still very jumpy but is coming along well. we now do driving and in hand showing! and i love him to bits, i think this is a good example of a lucky horse. btw i am only 13!!

glad fings turned out ok, ye its worth the hard work, effort and money considering the fings u get out of them. ive had the same problem with copper that is still being sorted out. but there worth every minute of it. :D

hi, I got my welsh cob 3 years ago, he had a lot of problems & was going to be sent to the sales hes taken me a lot of time & we have had a lot of scarey momants but it was worth giving him a 2nd chance as hes turned out great.!
