hello Rahara. tes i know what you mean, our animals seam to know us and our needs better than we humans sometimes know theirs.perhaps that's why we have them in our lives not just for company but because they can meet our emotional needs when everything else doesnt.

Hiya...I also work with special needs mostly children not with horse riding though I do hydrotheraphy but have been to see some of the kids riding..Its brilliant..one particular client I have, I do a lot of work with in his home they have 7 dogs 5 cats everyone of those animals are so gentle with him one particular dog can be pretty nasty but totaly accepts my client has to be along side of him where ever he is....

Thanks for your comments. Plodalong. I know that it is amazing what horses can do for people. It takes a special horse to sense what the rider needs. We work with some children under guardianship so are not able to post a lot of pics of them. But I will give it a try, sometime. hello Bucky ,welcome to the group, I work with special needs.so i realise what an important job your husband does. i take some young adults to a rda,(Riding for the Disabled) center and they all appear to get a lot of joy and sense of independance from sitting or driving a mild mannered Pony,Im sure that horses have the feeling of carrying special cargo. Please feel free to put up some photo's and tell us all about your horse,husbands work.or training methods and ideas.we are all willing to learn.

Hello, My husband trains horses the "natural way" using a combination of a variety of methods as well as using TTEAM. He also does riding lessons for beginning riders and children with special needs. We live in Central Alberta, Canada.

Hi La Palma, aahh I love weanlings, they are so sweet to work with, just show her lots of different stuff, get her used to be handled all over, feet, legs, everywhere, it will do her good, try to show her in hand at CountyLevel if you can as a yearling, that makes them much more worldy wise, and teaches them manners, handling and travelling, makes sure you get a good bond with her too, that builds trust, Anglo-|Arabs are gorgeous horses, I had one once and she was fabulous, very good at everything we did with her. Sadly she died young through grass sickness. Have lots of fun as I'm sure you will. And don't forget to love her loads, they know when they're loved.

Hi Horse Girl, there are a lot of questions to be asked about this, the obvious one is have you had back, teeth and feet checked, if this is sudden behaviour and uncharacteristic it sounds like a defence mechanism and could well be through pain. What did the horse do before you had him? What do you feed? When did this behaviour begin? What sort of relationship did he have with Dervish before the behaviour? Sorry to bombard you but Im sure you know these are all things to be aware of?

I'm suffolk but I know lovely Derbyshire well. Lucky you. Quite a few people have started groups for people in their county to share info about rides, events. You could try doing this. Must be so many people with horses in such a beautiful county. Maybe some of them will find you here. Good luck.

Thought I would post this note because there is an interesting/complimentary horse training clinic in Norfolk this weekend at the World Horse Welfare. It is on conflict free training and is called "If Horses could Talk". Further details are on the blog in the TV section.

Hi saddleup, would just like mention, not only is hempfling really great with horses, but happens to be an amazingly genuine and approachable person! I met him while working at one of his demonstrations, and he was happy to have a chat even though he had been buisy all day! Will deffinately be looking more into Clinton Anderson too, he sounds like a good guy. For those interested I've started a blog, with my own experiences of NH, and will be including tips of how it can benefit your horses, and also yourself in everyday life! There are some fab videos of natural horseman, Hempfling, in the video library of trotontv. The one here is just one of several you can find there. I've not come across this man, Klaus Ferdinand Hempfling before but he's quite a master horseman. He's publishing a book later this year about natural horsemanship called 'My Way of Body Language' which I'm looling forward to getting hold of. He'a probably well known by the rest of you and it's just me who hasn't come across him before?
